Club de Fútbol Monterrey's 4-2 home defeat to Atlante in matchday 10 of the Apertura 2026 severely dents their playoff hopes. Matías Almeyda's side, now sitting 10th in Liga MX with 13 points, looked defensively frail and were punished despite dominating possession.

Luis Puente put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute from a Walter Portales pass. Hugo Cuypers leveled for Monterrey seven minutes later, finishing off a move created by Óliver Torres. The second half, however, was a disaster for the hosts. Luis Calzadilla restored Atlante's lead in the 53rd minute and Eduardo Tercero extended it in the 64th, with Jhojan Julio providing the assist. Roberto de la Rosa pulled one back for Monterrey in the 82nd minute, but Julio sealed the win in the sixth minute of added time.

Despite enjoying 60% of the ball and taking 17 shots, Monterrey's defence collapsed. The team has now conceded 10 goals this season and this marks their fourth loss of the campaign. The schedule gets no easier, with a trip to third-placed Club America next on October 11th.

Almeyda made attacking substitutions, bringing on Diego Rossi and De la Rosa just before the hour mark, but failed to turn the tide. The squad, which you can examine in full on our squad page, must rediscover the defensive solidity shown in the draw with Tigres to salvage their season. The focus now shifts entirely to the upcoming Clásico Regio preparation.
