Club de Fútbol Monterrey has officially confirmed the departure of Nicolás Sánchez as its head coach, a decision made by mutual agreement following the team's failure in the Liga MX Clausura 2026 Tournament. The Rayados did not manage to qualify for the Liguilla, which led to changes in the technical direction.
Sánchez, who took over as Domenec Torrent's replacement, had a very brief stint leading the men's first team, lasting just 49 days as head coach. The Monterrey institution thanked him for his professionalism and commitment during his time at the club, first as an institutional assistant and then as head coach.
The strategist's departure comes amidst disappointment for Club de Fútbol Monterrey, which, despite having a high-value squad, failed to achieve its sporting objectives. In addition to missing out on the Liga MX Liguilla, the team was also eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup.
A notable aspect of the official statement is that Club de Fútbol Monterrey does not close the door on a future return for Nicolás Sánchez. It mentions that they will maintain close communication to evaluate his possible reincorporation in another position, suggesting that his current departure could be part of a strategic agreement.
Along with Nicolás Sánchez, the Rayados' coaching staff will also see the departure of Severo Meza, Esteban Landazabal, and Vicente Espadas. The club wished them success in their future professional and personal challenges, marking the beginning of a "clean-up" in the team's technical structure.
