Club de Fútbol Monterrey strengthens its attack with Hugo Cuypers' $7.5M signing
The Chicago Fire sold their star striker Hugo Cuypers to Club de Fútbol Monterrey for $7.5 million plus $500,000 in add-ons, as announced after Robert Lewandowski's MLS debut. Coach Gregg Berhalter confirmed that Cuypers' transfer request followed Lewandowski's arrival. "We continued with what we were doing," said Berhalter, who opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Jonathan Bamba and Phillip Zinckernagel on the wings.
Cuypers' signing strengthens Monterrey's attack as they aim to close the 3-point gap with league leaders Cruz Azul. His arrival brings experience and goals, key to maintaining their strong start to the season.
